Astoundingly modern-looking Iga mizusashi (water container for tea ceremony) from the Momoyama era, in a bold rectangular sculptural form. The front has incised abstract gestural scratches and paint-like glazes that bring abstract impressionist painting to mind, while the square-shaped lid handle has a whimsical sculptural charm. It comes with a very well made black lacquer box, which shows it has been treasured and well-regarded through the years.
Condition: Fair. There is a kiln crack on the base, but it is in good condition. The lid has a few cracks that have old repairs, as seen in the photos.
Size: 7.48 x 4.72 inches / 19 x 12 cm
