This set of five Edo era chataku (coasters for sencha) are of a very high quality and elegant design. We believe the metal is steel coated with tin, which has been highly regarded (especially in the world of sencha tea) for over 1300 years. The upturned, curving sides add to the beauty of any sencha cup or yunomi you choose, but would look especially nice with cups of a formal style with a high kodai (base.) The contrast between the textured and smooth surfaces is particularly attractive. They are quite heavy and feel substantial. This lovely and highly collectable set of coasters comes in an old—perhaps original—box.
CONDITION: Good to fair. Several coasters have some wear, and one has a rather recent ding. Please check the photos carefully.
