Oribe slab plate by Ryoji Koie

Oribe slab plate by Ryoji Koie

This heavy and solid square oribe slab plate with atmospheric abstract design and unusual feet (lower foot goes along the bottom of the plate, while there is one single upper foot) is by Japanese Living National Treasure Ryoji Koie (b. 1938). Although this plate is entirely usable — picture it as an Autumn hassun platter with salmon smoked in cedar planks and scattered with yellow gingko leaves — it is also painterly and would make a wonderful display item for modern art collectors. The plate is signed “Ryoji Koie 1993”, and comes with a signed box, stand and authentication papers. Koie is widely exhibited and his work is collected internationally by major museums.
